Melanie Engels, a Minneota High School junior, was one of three students to place first in the Southwest/West Central Creative Writing contest and received a $2,000 scholarship at an awards present
The Minneota boys finished in fifth place at their home meet on Thursday at Countryside Golf Club, while Ava Panka of the Vikings finished 10th individually in the girls' meet.
The Canby/Minneota girls won eight events and dominated the seven-team Montevideo Invitational on Tuesday.
Five players had two hits apiece as Minneota/Canby outslugged Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 10-6 Thursday in Minneota.
Chase Christensen had three hits and drove in three runs as Russell-Tyler-Ruthton drubbed Minneota 11-3 on Monday.
Kyle Louwagie hurled 5 1/3 innings for the win.
