100 Years Ago-January 23, 1920

Opera House Dance

The Juanita Club will give a dance at the opera house on the evening of February 4. This will be a big dance and a success, like every thing this club undertakes.

Delco Plants

Joe Culshaw has been operating in this vicinity for several weeks selling Delco plants. He tells us he has met with exceptional success, as every farmer needs a light plant. Rex Theatre The New Rex Theatre opened last Monday evening with “Daddy Long-legs” one of the popular movies as the attraction. The house was filled to its fullest capacity a few minutes after the doors opened.

Minneota basketball team first defeat

The Minneota basketball team met its first defeat of the season at Montevideo last Saturday evening. They were defeated by the score of 21-39.

75 Years Ago-January 19, 1945

Brothers Meet

Their first meeting in three years brought S/Sgt. John VanMoorlehem and his brother, Pvt. Arthur, together for a holiday reunion in England, according to word received by their parents Mr. and Mrs. Gus VanMoorlehem. Three more sons are in the service, Sgt. George at Camp Irwin, Barstow, Calif.; Marine Pvt. Elmer in the Pacific and Marine Pvt. Howard, also in the Pacific.

Local student on Concordia Band Tour

Miss Judith Pennings is a member of the Concordia College Concert Band which started its annual tour on January 17, traveling and presenting concerts in four states. She is a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. W. Pennings of this village.

Wrestlers Continue Winning Ways; Defeat Raymond

The MHS wrestling squad continued its winning pace as it defeated Raymond by the score of 28-14. The Vikes now post a seasonal record of seven wins and one loss. Coach Pete VanVooren was especially pleased with the wrestling of Jeff Yeo, Bob DePestel, Jim Culshaw and Curt Eischens. DePestel’s opponent was unbeaten during the year until Monday night when Bob won on a 11-4 decision.

Receives welcome donation

Cheryl Schmitz was happy to receive a gift check from Kevin Hoffmann for the McGruff Safe Home Project. Cheryl is an interested parent and Co-Chair of the McGruff project while Kevin represented the State Bank of Taunton for this donation.

Minneota students participate in first annual Academic Challenge at SSU

Sixteen regional high school teams, consisting of 4 students and 1 alternate, will be involved in a single-elimination Academic Challenge at SSU. Minneota Coaches Ralph Hagen and John Voit have been working with the students, as they prepare to answer questions from a wide range of categories. Those on the team include Ryan Swedzinski, Chris Jeremiason, Paul Smith, Laura Engels, and Jon VanMoorlehem. The first match will be telecast over Pioneer Public TV, Sunday, January 22, at 6 p.m.
