75 Years Ago-September 22, 1944

Returns to Base

Lt. Raymond Swedzinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Swedzinski of Taunton, has been reported back to his base after having been listed as missing since July 19. Raymond has also received the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster. These awards were received for the courageous manner in which he carried out his duties. He was also promoted to First Lieutenant.

Personals

Mr. and Mrs. Roseville Josephson are the parents of a girl born on September 19. She will be named Diana Dorothy. Captain Eric Sanderson, son of Dr. and Mrs. E.T. Sanderson, has arrived in San Francisco and is expected here in about two weeks. He landed on the west coast Sept. 18, after 2 1/2 years spent overseas in New Guinea and Australia.

50 Years Ago-September 25, 1969

Candidates for Homecoming Queen

One of these six girls will be chosen queen of the 1969 Minneota High School Homecoming and reign over festivities. The candidates are Janet Christianson, daughter of Attorney and Mrs. Lester R. Christianson, Connie Dero, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Dero, Vicki Kaas, daughter of Mrs. Nick Neisius, Wendy Severson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ordell Severson, Janet Boerboom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Boerboom, and Susan Sumerfelt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sumerfelt. Class attendants to the queen will be Jean Ufkin, representing the ninth grade, Margaret Pennings, tenth grade, and Gloria Coequyt, eleventh grade. Minneota will play Ivanhoe at the football game on Friday evening.

Holm Honored by U of Kansas

William Holm, a graduate student at the University of Kansas, was among 11 at that institution to be honored by the English department for excellence in overall performance or in competition during the past year. He received the Selden Lincoln Whitcomb Fellowship.

25 Years Ago-September 21, 1994

Reign over Homecoming activities

Homecoming coronation was held on Monday afternoon at Minneota High School. Crowned was Princess Becky Vlaminck, Prince Neil Hennen, Queen Renee Meulebroeck and King Nathan Pohlen. The crown bearers were Hayley Christensen and Cody Esping.

On the final “leg” of his bike tour

Justin Fier, of Golden Valley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Fier also of Golden Valley, Minn., stopped in the Minneota area to visit his father’s brothers: Erwin, Raymond, and Donald who live in the Minneota area. Justin flew to Spokane, WA., last July for a family wedding, and Justin decided to bike back to Minnesota while his family flew.

40th Wedding Anniversary

In honor of David and Betty Josephson’s 40th Wedding Anniversary, there will be cake and coffee served at Hope Lutheran Church on September 25.

The 1994 football cheerleaders

These high school students lead the Minneota High School in cheers for the football games: Becky Vlaminck, Cari Boerboom, Carie Pohlen, Jennifer Flood, Nicole Briley, and DeeAnn DePestel.

This looks like a good tackle - but Duane Kockelman, Minneota’s #84, shook loose of this RTR Knight and scurried across the goal line for the first score of the game.

To preform in Marshall

Jamie Gans is one of the musicians who will perform in the Bill Holm & Friends concert at Carlin Hall, in Holy Redeemer Church in downtown Marshall, on Sunday, September 25.
