75 Years Ago-Jan. 1, 1943
Firm Dissolved
The hardware firm of Gislason-Bromen has been dissolved with the purchase of A. L. Bromen’s interest by his partner, V. V. Gislason. Attorney Bromen, who will enter on his new duties as county attorney next week, will devote his time to the practice of law and to his official business. Mr. Gislason will operate the hardware firm alone. The partnership was formed in 1932, as successor to the Gislason hardware business conducted by W. B. Gislason, Virgil’s father.
Hurt in combat
Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Denno received a letter December 26 from their son, Orville, who is in the infantry of the U. S. Army. He wrote that he was in a hospital in French Morocco, in northern Africa, with a shrapnel wound in the right thigh. He stated he is getting along nicely and all the boys there are treated well. Mr. and Mrs. Denno were shocked to get the news, as they had no word when he was sent out of the States. They had been sending all mail to Camp Pickett, Virginia, and were halfway expecting him home for Christmas.
Mrs. Sharkey Dies
Mrs. Bertha A. Sharkey, nee DeCramer, of Moline, Illinois, left a nine-month-old daughter motherless when she passed away December 17 at the public hospital in Moline. The baby is being cared for by Mrs. Sharkey’s sister, Mrs. Edward VanDorpe of Minneota. Mrs. Sharkey was 39 years of age.

Bjornson girl buried
Tuesday Sylvia Mayra, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Bjorn Bjornson who died in Minneapolis of leukemia, was buried here in St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery Tuesday afternoon. Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister and four brothers. Mr. Bjornson is a former editor of the Minneota Mascot.
Baptism
The twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Antone Callens were baptized at St. Edward’s church on Sunday, December 24th. Rev. Thomas Diehl officiated at the baptism. They were given the names Joseph Henry and James Daniel.
Dies after car crash
Mrs. Leanora Schimming was on her way to Canby to spend the holidays when she lost control of her auto on an icy patch near Hector and the car left the highway, according to the Canby News. She was taken to the Renville county hospital in Olivia where she died later of injuries sustained in the accident.
Engaged
Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Amundson of Minneota announce the engagement of their daughter, Cheryl Ann, to Lyndon Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wally Schultz of Hendricks, and the grandson of Mrs. Sarah Rafnson of Minneota.

Recovering at home
Gary Buysse made it home for Christmas after undergoing lung surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD December 17. A rapid recovery, and a bit of determination, helped this local insurance agent arrive home just four days after surgery.
Brass ensemble performs
Music students at Minneota High School shared a little Christmas cheer with people at the Senior Center last Tuesday before the school holiday began. This brass ensemble played familiar carols for the folks that were gathered. Some of the kids that participated are as follows: Tawnya Fier, Krista Anderson, Jason Myhre, Sheri Tillemans, Laura Eischens, Loren Louwagie, Bryan Anderson, Jon Konold, Director John Voit and Eric Alleckson.
“Beary” happy about the donation
Sister Helen Janssen was very happy to receive wooden bear lawn ornaments as a donation to the upcoming Prairie Home Hospice fundraiser.
The Sparkeltones perform at Senior Center
The Minneota High School vocal group, The Sparkletones, sang the tune “Show Me The Way” at the Senior Center last Tuesday. Members are Julienne Madsen, Laura DeSmet, Nicolle Coequyt, Kim Tillemans, Cindy Vlaminck, Kari Severson, Amanda Prinsen, Becky Wambeke, Laura Engels, Arra Ross, Kristy Buysse and Jessica Nuytten.
