75 Years Ago-March 12, 1943

Minneota enters district tourney

The Minneota high school basketball team, under the direction of Coach Miles Nelson, swept their three-game series in the sub-district tournament last week to become, with Tracy, one of the two co-champions to enter district play in Marshall March 11.

Minneota Public Library decorated

Mrs. P. H. Geiwitz, librarian, reports that the Minneota Public Library is undergoing an early spring cleaning. The walls are being re-papered, and the shelves and woodwork treated to a coat of light-colored paint.

Change signal for air raid warning system

K. E. Jones, chief air raid warden, has announced a revision in the air raid warning signal system for Minneota. Under the new procedure, one long blast of the siren will be given to prepare for a blackout. A rapid up and down blast will signify complete blackout, during which all lights must be extinguished and traffic must halt. One long steady blast of the siren will indicated the end of the blackout period.

50 Years Ago-March 14, 1968

Weekend Vaudeville

Music, dramatics and slap-stick comedy will be highlighted Friday and Saturday evenings, March 15 and 16, when vaudeville comes to Minneota in the form of a variety show in the high school auditorium. Students in grades nine through 12 will participate in the all high school event with Marc Christianson, student director, coordinating and emceeing the program. Members of the German band are: Jerry Teigland, Marc Christianson, Greg Yeo, Ronald Amundson, Paul Larson, Eric Heggeseth, Tom Christianson, John Morency, Faser Geiwitz, Kevin Anderson.

Board votes bond election for $395,000 school addition

At its monthly meeting held Thursday night, the local school board voted to hold a bond election in the amount of $395,000 for an addition to the present school building.

An open house reception, honoring Mr. and Mrs. John E. Regnier on their 25th wedding anniversary, will be held on Sunday, March 17 at the St. Eloi school cafeteria at Ghent.

Souvenirs from Africa

Tom Nomeland, Mike Tillemans and Kevin Anundson all members of Bethel Fellowship, spent a month in Africa working with the people and sharing their spiritual message.

Minneota Jaycees earn awards

The Minneota Jaycee members attended a State meeting in Bloomington on February 12-14 and received awards through the Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans event. Presidential Medallions were awarded to Carol Myhre and Bob Polejewski, as their names were submitted from the local Board of Directors. Sue Fonteyn was awarded the Treasurer of the Quarter certificate and Scott Myhre accepted the Project of the Quarter and South Area of Excellence Awards for the Minneota group.

Junior High Speech Team competes

The Junior High Speech Team competed at Marshall on Saturday, earning the second-place trophy for the team event.

Science Fair blue ribbon winners

Blue ribbons were awarded to these Minneota Elementary students: Ellen Wambeke, Graham Ross, Scott Anderson, Matt Coequyt, Kari Gorecki, Kristen Haugen, Angela Teigland, April VanLeeuwe, Breanne Larson, Ami Tilllemans, Jeremy VanLeeuwe, Alisha Larson, Jessica Koppein, Nick Welle, Heather Prinsen, Rustin Buysse, Jeff Hettling, Sherry DeSmet, Amanda Hammerstrom and Mary Canton. Ami Tillemans, sixth grade and Jeremy VanLeeuwe, fifth grade, were the overall winners for their respective grades.

Darcie Bass is CHS Employee of the Year

Chisago Health Services’ Employee of the Year, Darcie Bass, loves her work and her smile shows it. Darcie grew up in Minneota. She lives in Forest Lake with her husband, John and their two children, Brittany 12, and Carly, almost 3. She is the daughter of Donald and Marian Wigness of this community.
