75 Years Ago-June 11, 1943

Ordained Priest

We are informed that the Rev. John Harold McDonald was to be ordained to the priesthood on Thursday, June 10, at Marist college, Washington, D.C. Father McDonald is the grandson of the late Lawrence McDonald and wife, Minneota pioneers. Mrs. G.F. Ahern of Taunton is his aunt.

Louwagie-Noyes

Miss Bertha Noyes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Noyes, became the bride of Emil Louwagie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hector Louwagie of Marshall, on Wednesday, May 5 at the church at St. Eloi in Ghent.

LaVoy-Engels

At St. Eloi’s church in Ghent, Miss Marie Engels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Livinius F. Engels, became the bride of Earl LaVoy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur LaVoy of Marshall, on Tuesday, May 25.

Jerzak-Steffes

Miss Loretta Steffes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steffes of Ivanhoe, became the bride of Vernon Jerzak, son of Mrs. Julia Jerzak of Limestone, on June 8 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Ivanhoe.

Club-Schalleck

Miss Salley Schallek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Schalleck, became the bride of Leo Club, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Club of Ivanhoe, at the Wilno Catholic church Tuesday.

50 Years Ago -June 13, 1968

Married 50 years

Mrs. K.A. Thompson of Minneota were the honored guests at a 50th wedding anniversary open house held at St. Lucas Lutheran church on Sunday. They were married at Swede Home Lutheran church on June 5, 1918. They have two sons, Kenneth and Ervin, and eight grandchildren.

Dental Student honored by U of M

Robert C. Schulte, son of Dr. and Mrs. J.M. Schulte of Minneota, was recently cited at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry’s 23rd annual Honors Day. A 1971 dental student, he received the honor dental student award.

Art show being staged here

Local artists, students of Mr. Theodore Rolling, Ivanhoe, who conducted art classes for adults at St. Edward’s school for the past six weeks, are showing their talents at an art show in the former Allen’s Alley building. Those exhibiting their paintings are: Mrs. Del Lamphere, Mrs. Robert Geiwitz, Mrs. Don Venne, Mrs. Don Bourgeois, Louise Sturm, Mrs. Dan Garry, Denise Garry, Mrs. E.M. Amundson, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Fox and Mrs. William Drown.

Married 25 years

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Anderson were honored at an open house on Sunday, June 2, the occasion being their 25th wedding anniversary.

25 Years Ago-June 9, 1993

Madison Avenue Apartments in 7th year

The Madison Avenue Apartments have been in existence for seven years now, and the residents invite you to come and celebrate with them. A special 7th Anniversary recognition is scheduled for Thursday, June 10, in the Community Room. A supper will lead off the festivities and then entertainment by the LeRoy Alm Band will be given in the courtyard.

“Doc” and Marjorie Merritt married 50 years

Dr. and Mrs. Wm. Merritt were married at his sister’s home in Jasper on January 10th, 1943. They settled in Minneota where they have lived while raising their five children. In celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary, the entire family “congregated” at son Rick’s home (Eolia, MO) for a 5-day get-together at Thanksgiving time, 1992.

Nuytten to compete in 4-H contest

Twenty-eight teenagers, members of the 4-H program from the entire State of Minnesota, will compete June 14 in the 10th year of the Senior and Final Division of Communication Arts Competitions. Jessica Nuytten, daughter of Richard and Linda Nuytten of rural Minneota, is a member of the Westerheim Flashing Stars 4-H Club. Jessica will be competing in the Public Speaking category with the title of her presentation to be, “Tossed Salad”.
