75 Years Ago-June 25, 1943

Urge new school here

The high school inspector of the state department of education has brought up the matter of a new school building here. While every attempt has been made during the last 25 years to keep the building in good condition and repair, its age is now such that no amount of repairing and patching will satisfy the building inspectors. The school board, at its June meeting, adopted a resolution setting aside money for bonds as a sinking fund toward a new building as soon as the war is over.

Yeo-Pridal

Miss DeLores Pridal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pridal of Taunton was united in marriage to Bert Yeo, son of Bert Yeo of Minneota, on June 22 at the Baptist church in Minneota.

Hanson-Nelson

Miss Elise Leila Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nelson of Hendricks and Oren Hanson, son of Henry L. Hanson of Fairfax, were united in marriage June 9, in Bethlehem Lutheran church in St. Paul. The Rev. Beredow presided over the single ring ceremony.

50 Years Ago-June 27, 1968

Local family to host Paraguayan student

Ramon DeLa A. BritezEspinosa, a 16-year-old boy who lives in Paraguay, is coming to Minneota the latter part of August as an American Field Service student and will make his home with the Carl Lawrence family during the coming school term. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence and their son, Bradley, received word last Friday that they were to be a host family to the Paraguayan teenager.

Marshall girl wins Dairy Crown

Southwestern Minnesota’s newest dairy princess is a dairy farm girl from Lyon county - for the second straight year, Linda Louwagie, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Louwagie of Marshall was chosen American Dairy Association Region XI Dairy Princess from a field of 21 girls. Miss Louwagie will represent area counties in the 15th annual Princess Kay of the Milky Way contest at the 1968 Minnesota State Fair.

Minneotan Notes 97th Birthday

Mrs. Clemense VanDorpe celebrated her ninety-seventh birthday on Sunday, June 16th at her home.

Winner at Granite Falls

Cindy Merritt, with her horse, won fourth place in the girls pole-bending event at the Minnesota State High School Rodeo at Granite Falls, June 14-16. She is now awaiting word on whether she will be eligible for the national meet at Topeka, Kansas, in August.

25 Years Ago-June 23, 1993

Mother Nature’s Fury

The weather is on everyone’s mind right now in the aftermath of a deluge of rain that caused wide-spread flooding. In concern over the collapse of the dam, volunteers gathered near the City Office and filled sandbags. The rain didn’t stop until morning to total 4.54 inches on Wednesday night, 1.18 on Friday and Saturday .34 inches.

Thanked for service to community

Harold Howard was thanked for his five years of service to the community through his involvement with the District #414 School Board. He received a plaque and congratulations from Board member Christy Ahern. Harold took part in his last Board meeting at the June meeting last Thursday.

The Class of 1943 held its 50th Class Reunion

The class of 1943 held its 50th class reunion at the L. Joe and Betty Claeys farm near Ghent of June 4, 1993, exactly 50 years to the day they were graduated from Minneota High School. The class was happy to have their Principal, Harriet Hellerud Hager, and her husband, Judge Harold Hager, of Grand Forks, ND, attend the reunion.

Invitational golf winners

These ladies were the winners in their respective flights at the Countryside Golf Club last Tuesday. They are: Fourth Flight winner Sandy Boerboom, Third Flight winner Val Blair, Second Flight winner Heidi Boerboom, First Flight winner Bernie Janssen and the Invitational Champion Dorie Teigland.
