75 Years Ago-September 17, 1943

Mascot has new lessees, Reinertsons leave Minneota

With this issue of the Minneota Mascot, the paper has a new management, having been leased to Mr. and Mrs. Ragner Guttormsson by the owner, G. B. Bjornson and sons. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Reinertson, who have leased the Mascot for six years, are taking a holiday before entering the newspaper field elsewhere.

Meger buys Korner Kafe building

E. L. Meger present manager of the Ed’s Cafe announced Tuesday afternoon, September 14, that he has purchased the corner building originally known as the Korner Kafe from Frank Leland.

New regulations for car drivers

The State of Minnesota now has new regulations that govern the operator of any motor vehicle. Driver’s licenses expiration date for each driver’s license issued after Sept. 1, 1943 shall be the birthday of the driver in the fourth year following the date of issuance.

50 Years Ago-September 19, 1968

Contentment in a friend’s lap

This fawn, thought to be about 10 weeks old, lay contentedly in the lap of Dale Hachmann, local Otter Tail Power Co. representative, after being freed from a fence by a power line crew north of Minneota last Friday afternoon. The animal’s left leg was injured when it was caught in the fence and it was being held here until game wardens arrived. The wardens turned it over to Dr. Raymond Diemer, local veterinarian, for treatment.

Some squash!

Herman Buesing posed last week on the back steps of his home in Taunton with this “banana” squash which he raised this summer. He had another about the size of this one, which weighed about 56 pounds and was 53 inches long.

12 win honors at market show

Twelve 4-H club members from Lyon county brought home several honors from the 50th Market Livestock Show that concluded last Saturday, according to Raymond J. Newell, county agent. James Myhre of the Nordland club won blue ribbon for Hereford steer, Lyle DeCock of Grandview won blue ribbon for Angus steer, and Bob Gee of the Stanley club won champion Angus steer and then selected reserve grand champion of the show.

The 1993 Minneota royalty

Saturday’s festivities at Boxelder Bug Days came to a climax as the 1993 royalty was declared. Chosen to represent Minneota in upcoming parades for the coming year are Princess Rebecca Sharp, daughter of Larry and Jeanette Sharp; Queen Nicolle Coequyt, daughter of Leo and Helen Coequyt; and Princess Rebecca Wambeke, daughter of Ferd and Judy Wambeke. The sponsors were State Farm Insurance, Gislason hardware and Bubba’s Bar, respectively.

School to close early on Wednesday

Minneota Public School and St. Edward’s School will close their doors at 12:45 this Wednesday, September 15, so that staff members and students may attend the funeral service of Stella Ann Smith. Mrs. Smith was a teacher in the Minneota Public School system for over 20 years. She will be remembered by fellow teachers and the countless number of students who learned from her.

Football team takes Ortonville 66-8

The kicking game is often an important aspect of a successful football program. Eric Alleckson booted the ball held by quarterback, Matt Myrvik. Alleckson has become a very consistent kicker, and is currently 8-of-11 in extra point kicks, and 1-of-1 on field goal attempts.

Heated volleyball

A heated game of volleyball with RTR last Thursday night found the Knights taking the match in a 3-2 contest. But beat Lakeview in the opening game in three straight sets.
