Farmer’s Market starts in Minneota

Tomatoes and carrots and beets, oh my! The Minneota EDA committee is currently organizing a community Farmer's Market for this summer and is welcoming anyone to take part. “The more people we can get, the bigger the variety we will have,” said EDA member Jenny Buysse.

“We are not going to charge a vendor fee for anyone that wants to participate and sell their products.”

The Farmer’s Market will begin around the end of July, although an exact starting date and the night of the week has yet to be determined by the EDA committee. “We’re still working out some of the details,” Buysse said.

“We want to start slowly because this is the first time we’ve done something like this.” The proposed plan is for the Farmer’s Market to be held in a parking lot such as the one next to City Hall or across from Countryside Auto, but that will depend on how many vendors participate.

“We recently had a survey on our Facebook page to see how many people would be interested if we organized a Farmer’s Market,” said Buysse. “And we had a good response. We’re partnering with the FFA to help get the word out.”

Vendors would be independent in all regards as far as selling their products. They can sell their products themselves or have FFA members sell for them. Vendors would also be responsible for their own table, chairs, canopy, signs and change. “It’s not a commitment or anything,” said Buysse.

“Vendors aren’t required to be there every week. We understand people have things going on in the summer. We want it to be as independent as possible and vendors can come and go as they please. They can set their own hours and prices.”

Vendors can also sell homemade items at their stands such as preserves, honey and salsa, if they desire.
