Boerboom lands job at exclusive Montana course

Nolan Boerboom is reaching new heights with his love for golf.
The 2020 Minneota graduate, who was a two-time high school state golf participant, is spending his summer in the mountains working at an exclusive country club/ski resort outside Big Sky, Montana in the southwestern part of the state.
The Jack Nicklaus-designed private golf course named, “The Reserve at Moonlight Basin”, is a stunning layout on the back side of a mountain.
Boerboom, who is employed in the Outdoor Services department at the country club, spent Tuesday working as a "spotter" during the nationally-televised "The Match 4" event on Tuesday that pitted Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson against Aaron Rodgers and Bryson DeChambeau.
Rodgers came to the club last week to practice and Boerboom got a chance to meet him briefly. He also briefly met Brady and DeChambeau on Monday.
Boerboom worked in maintenance and as a greeter during preparation before, during and after The Match 4.
"All of the employees were scheduled to work 70 hours that week to get ready for this," Boerboom said.
Boerboom, who grew up along Countryside Golf Club in Minneota, was a standout golfer for the Vikings who qualified twice for the state tournament. But he has been so busy with college and now working at the course that he rarely has time to get out and play as much as he'd like to."It's a really tough course here," he said about Moonlight Basin. "There is no rough. The fairways just go into three-foot high grass."
As good of a golfer as he is, Boerboom has not played an entire round yet at the course he is employed at.
"I've actually never completed 18 holes here," he laughed. "I play by rule, not score. My rule is that if I lose three balls on any one hole, I'm done."
The course is so tough that the man who once held the course record shot over 100 the first time he played there.
"It's beautiful here, though," Boerboom said. "The course is just below the tree line and the view is really great."
The personable Boerboom just completed his first year of college at Grand Canyon University in Arizona. He is switching his major next fall to a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education.
Boerboom's mother, Heidi, a math teacher at Minneota High School, is a Montana native and still has family there. He has made trips out there before with her and is familiar to the area. He decided to apply for summer employment at Moonlight Basin and also at Yellowstone Golf Club. The personable Boerboom was accepted at both places and chose Moonlight Basin.
"My job here is to basically greet the members and get them things they might need," Boerboom explained. "I really enjoy getting to know all the members here. You soon learn what they like and don't like."
Most of the members at this exclusive club are successful businesspeople. Justin Timberlake, who is a member at nearby Yellowstone Golf Club, has golfed at Moonlight Basin, although not since Boerboom has been working there.

(Note: Because this edition went to press before the conclusion of The Match 4, we will include more information on Boerboom's day in next week's Mascot.)
