St. Edward play re-set for Friday

The St. Edward's all-school play previously slated for March 16 and was postponed after the Minneota girls’ basketball team advanced to the state tournament, will now be held on Friday, April 13.

The students will bring Aesop's Fables Redux to life with two performances that are open to the public; a matinee performance at 2 p.m., and an evening performance at 7 p.m.

Teresa Myhre is directing the play that involves a classic collection of stories that have descended from ancient Greece to modern times.

“We’re ready to go,” she said. “I’m excited and I’m sure all the kids are excited, too.”

This is St. Edward’s first all-school play. All students from Kindergarten to eighth grade will take part in the production.

“I have directed this play before,” said Myhre about Aesop’s Fables.

“The reason I chose it is because it has 13 scenes that are independent of each other.”

“It is a great play for a large cast because I can fit everyone into the play without having to somehow work with 50 children simultaneously.”

Students in each grade will work collaboratively on a particular scene. The additional scenes will be for those student wishing to be involved in larger roles.

“Since this is the first all-school play at St. Edward’s, I am trying to make it as easy as possible on the families and students involved so no one gets overwhelmed,” said Myhre.

“Fortunately, none of the scenes require extravagant sets; which is another reason why this play appealed to me.”

Myhre feels the arts are an important part of each student’s life. “I’m hoping to help create more chances for the children in our community who have a talent for, or interests in the arts.”

“In all the plays I’ve directed, I have witnessed many children blossom through the experience, and I look forward to being a part of that again.”

Admission for each performance is free-will donation.
