Testify Exhibit at Library

Minneota Library Director Gail Perrizo explains one of the 17 storyboards from the Alan and Diane Sims Page Collection entitled "Testify: Americana from Slavery to Today" that is now on display at the library until April 17. Some of the storyboards can be difficult to read because of the horrible conditions that Blacks have had to endure throughout history, but all of the storyboards are compelling and the Page collection is impressive. The storyboard Perrizo is explaining depicts a painting done by Burr Singer called "Only on Thursdays" of Blacks swimming in the Pasadena (CA) public pool and appearing to enjoy themselves. But they were only allowed to swim on Thursdays after the water had been fouled for a full week by white citizens. The exhibit is purchased with dollars from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.
