Dakoda Hennen, pictured left with Minneota-Taunton VFW Post 5334 and District 3 chairman Ed Lozinski, was the award winner of the Voice of Democracy essay contest hosted by the local VFW. The theme was "Why is the veteran important?" Hennen went on to place third in the district competition. She was honored Jan. 7 at a banquet in Granite Falls with her parents, Angie and Brandon Hennen.
