Light snow was still falling Monday morning in the Minneota area as farmers sipped coffee and tried to wait patiently.
“If you’d write down what you’re worried about today — andhopper three weeks from now look at it, you’ll probably see you were all wrong,” said Larry Buysse.
“Don’t sweat the small stuff,” laughed area farmer Rick Bot.
Both spent time at “The Roundup” in Minneota Monday waiting out the weather.
Farmers across the area are watching the weather, hoping for a little sun, but the weather forecasts are not encouraging.
“If it’s sunny tomorrow there will be guys out combining,” said Buysse.
Much of the bean crop has been harvested, in some areas.
“Ghent, Lynd, Russell, have most of their beans in,” said Buysse.
“Where we’re at (northeast of Minneota), we only have 20 percent in,” said Bot.
“You go five miles south of Minneota and you have a whole different game,” said Buysse.
Because different areas received varying amounts of moisture this summer, the crops are at various stages throughout the region.
“Crops are good where we got rain,” added Buysse.
Both he and Bot agreed saying, “Some areas will have great harvests.”
Bot added, “For the amount of rain, we’ve got a real good crop.”
