Work along Highway 68 south and west of Minneota will eventually create a better habitat for area ducks.
Chad Monson Excavating out of Willmar is currently digging at Gislason Lake, guessed to be from an 80- to 100-acre lake tucked into the rough terrain.
Said Troy Soine of the excavating crew, “Gislason Lake is being drained to kill the muddy fish that are in it.
Gates will be put in to keep the lake at about 2 1/2 feet of water, which will allow the organic weeds to grow back and will attract the return of ducks to this area.”
The lake has about 5 1/2 feet of water in it at this time, and the digging will allow the laying of tile and runoff to be collected in the nearby river.
This site is interesting in that it is on the Lincoln-Lyon Road, with the Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District  governing on one side and the Lyon Soil and Water Conservation District on the other.
