Better forget that round of golf today!

golf course 1Better not count on a round of golf at Countryside Golf Course in Minneota anytime soon.

The heavy rains, up to four inches total since last night, added to what we already had, made the golf course more of a swimming hole than a golf course.

The water was standing everywhere at the course on Thursday.

School called off; Volleyball too; football re-set for SMSU

Kids got out of school early, walked home

or got on the buskids  buses.

Minneota School Superintendent Dan Deitte was worried about getting kids home on time.

"I worry they won't get to their homes," he told The Mascot. So Supt. Deitte called off school in Minneota and sent all the kids home about 1 p.m. on Thursday.

"This isn't the time of year when you think you'll have to send kids home, but it happened," Deitte said.

Dike holding; bags in place just in case

By early Thursday afternoon it appeared some of the flooded areas were receeding in Minneota.

City Maintenance man Scott Holien (center in photo at right)  said sandbags were delivered to the dike area near Hope Lutheran Church but the water wass actually going down.

The sandbags have not been put in place at this time, but they are ready if needed.
