The sheriff nearly tripled the outcome of Bruce Hanson (left), who came in second.
The two will square off for the sheriff’s position in November.
Third place went to Ron McKenzie, who was eliminated from the race.
While vote totals were not available at presstime, Mather had about 1,756 votes to just over 516 for Hanson and about 477 for McKenzie. These are not final totals.
“Now the work really begins,” said Sheriff Mather Wednesday morning.

The current Minneota water and sewer project is running about $108,900 over budget — and a large amount is due to inability to stabilize the soil on Jefferson Street.
“This is a problem we’ve encountered. We’ve had 17 inches of rain since they broke ground,” said Mayor Tony Esping.

As a result, Northdale Construction has not been able to reach a dryness that will allow them to add rock and overlay to Jefferson street.

Police solve car theft crime ring

Three persons have been questioned and charges are pending in 30-40 cases of car theft in Minneota, Ghent and Marshall.
According to Minneota Police Chief Eric Johnson, the three will be charged for the thefts but only one is currently in custody.
One is a 17-year-old juvenile from Litchfield, MN. The other two are 19-year-old Joshua Kauffman of Alpha and 18-year-old Jackson Barker of Marshall.
The case won’t go to court until after the charges have been filed.
