State Representative Marty Seifert (R-Marshall) announced earlier his intention to seek the governor’s chair in Minnesota. Last week he made room for such a push by announcing he won’t s eek re-election to the House of Representatives in 2010. Seifert was first elected in 1996 and is now serving in his seventh two-year term.He made it clear he won’t seek another term in the house no matter what happens during his run for governor. "I have been greatly honored to serve the people of Lyon and Redwood Counties for the past 13 years," Seifert said. "I never believed in being a legislator for 20 or 30 years." Seifert was the top Republican in the House of Representatives as Minority Leader for the past three sessions. "My colleagues have been fantastic to work with and they give true meaning to public service," Seifert said. "Others will step forward to contribute to the debate and hopefully add some humor, interest and humility into the discussion as I have tried to do during my time in office," he said. Recently during a straw poll at a Republican convention Seifert was given the top nod amongst a variety of candidates who are seeking the position.
