By Byron Higgin Mascot Publisher Six persons submitted their names for consideration as an appointed city councilman. The Minneota position became available when Tony Esping accepted the position of mayor after the death of Mayor Paul Larson. Esping’s seat then became vacant. The six applying for the position included: Wayne West, Mary Johnson, Jerry Bottel-berghe, Jordyce Groeneweg, Terri Myhre and Bill Ufkin. The city council was to meet in special session Monday night in an attempt to begin going over the applicants for the vacant position. However, the meeting was called due to bad weather. Anyone appointed to fill the vacancy will do so only until November. Then, if they want to continue on the council they will have to file for election and be elected by residents of the community. At that time the mayor’s position will also be up for election along with Esping’s council seat and the seats of Lyall Gislason and the seat currently held by Tim Koppien. As a result, the mayor and three city council positions will be up for election in November of 2010. The council Monday was also going to consider a couple of resolutions and meet in closed session to discuss employee salaries.
