pesek donaldMass of Christian Burial for Donald “Donnie” Pesek, 78, of Rural Taunton, was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota.

After suffering a heart attack on Monday evening, Donnie died on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Interment followed the service at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton.

Military honors provided by U.S. American Legion Post 604 of Taunton.

Donald James Pesek was born on February 28, 1932, on the family farm in Burton Township to Frank and Mary (Kubes) Pesek.

He grew up and attended school in Rural Taunton. Donnie enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 5th Army Division working with military intelligence.

After his honorable discharge, he and Donna Lee Barenklau were united in marriage on June 6, 1956, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple returned to farm and raise their family on the Pesek family farm near Taunton. Donnie loved to fish.

He considered his fondest memories to include his 20 Canadian fishing trips. Music was a big part of his life. Donnie enjoyed big band music, singing and dancing.

He also had very fond memories of his family vacations. Donnie was an active member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church of Taunton and the American Legion Taunton post.

He's survived by his wife, Donna Lee, of Taunton, daughter Connie Lu (and Wally) Lipinski of Canby, granddaughter Loni Jo Dubbeldee, daughter Jan Fenske of Sioux Falls, SD, grandchildren Ross and Erica Fenski, sister Evelyn Magnuson of Minneota.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, Frank and Ray.
