Watershed watching the flooding areas

sb jumped banksCongressmen Collin Peterson took an interest in the flooding situation in Minneota on Thursday.
Mike Weckwerth, Asst. Administrator of the Yellow Medicine River Watershed District kept Rep. Peterson abreast of the situation by sending him some photos.

Here are three of the photos, which include a road retention project which was installed about three years ago.  It was designed to hold back water and slowly release it downstream.  sb under waterThe intake where the water is going into is approximately 25-30 feet above ground level.

As you can see, there is quite a bit of water being held back to help.

The other photos are showing the South Branch of the Yellow Medicine River as it enters into Minneota.  The river jumped its bank and is flowing towards the dike on the West side of town.avflooding
