Joyce Dorraine Nelson, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, May 3,nelson joyce 2010, surrounded by her family and under the care of hospice staff at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls.
She was born in Minneota, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Helgeson) Johnson.  
She was baptized and confirmed in Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota.  She attended grade and high school in Minneota.
On February 27, 1946, she married Darrell Nelson in Ivanhoe, Minnesota.  
They lived in Sioux Falls, SD, Minneota, Fergus Falls, and Hutchinson.  They were the parents of four children.  
After Darrell’s death in 1982, Joyce moved back to Fergus Falls.
Joyce was active in Camp Fire Girls and was instrumental in helping them plant hundreds of Ponderosa pines along the north side of Wall Lake.  
In addition she belonged to Eastern Star, Sons of Norway, and often served as an election judge.  
She was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, and First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
She had a deep personal faith.  Joyce was a homemaker, a warm hostess, and she truly loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed music and was a terrific dancer.
Survivors include three daughters:  Connie (Brad) Hastings of Ottertail, Nancy (Todd) Johnson of Fergus Falls, and Susan (David) Eastman of Wickenburg, AZ; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Keys of Valley City, ND, and Karen (Joe) Vickberg of Grand Rapids; and two brothers, David (Becky) Johnson of Chaska, and Craig (Susan) Johnson of North Branch.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Darrell, her son, Gary, her brother, Glenn, her grandson, Jeremy, and her parents.

larry haugenLarry M. Haugen, age 78, of Minneota, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

He was born August 27, 1931, on a farm north of Minneota, to Elling and Martha (Blomme) Haugen.  His family moved to Illinios in 1941 until 1948 when they moved to Iowa for a short time.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in May 17,   1949.  He served in San Antonio, TX, Washington D.C., and Tripoli North Africa until March of 1952.

He then served on the Crash Boats by the Golden Gate Bridge near San Fransico.  He was honorably discharded on December 1, 1952.

Mary E. Doom, age 91, of Marshall, passed away at the Minneota Manor on Sundaydoom mary newspaper photo, May 2, 2010.
Mass Of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a 4 p.m. Rosary Service and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Hamilton Funeral Home. V
isitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.  
Mary Emma was born to Cyriel and Lucy (Bulcke) Verly on January 12, 1919 in Ghent, Minnesota. She was baptized, received First Communion and confirmed at the St. Eloi Catholic Church.

Rehkamp – Horvath Funeral Home in Minneota was in charge of the sevices.
Cyril Joseph Vanden Broecke was born on June 27, 1919, in Canby, the only child of Otto and Madeline (Sabbe) Vanden Broecke. 
He grew up on the family farm and continued farming until 1974.  He later worked for the UBC Lumberyard until 1990.  
On February 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Frances Stoks at Sts Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton.

Esther B. Johnson was born May 28, 1929 at the family home, the daughter of Lewellyn and Henrietta (Ningen) Johnson.  
She grew up and attended rural Country School in the Minneota area.  
A graduate of Minneota High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Augsburg College and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota.  
She taught for 42 years, teaching at Hanley Falls, MN and Marshall, MN.  
She was noted for her commitment to help each student in her classroom develop their reading, writing and communication skills to the best of their ability.
