Stoks smiles ‘big’ after win |

It wasn’t difficult to know who won the boys’ race at Canby Tuesday. Canby runner Nick Stoks was all smiles and excitement as he said, “It was my best time of the year.” His 16:25 was well ahead of everyone else and Stoks was beaming. “I give a lot of credit to my cousin, Grant VanKeulen of Marshall. He runs with me and pushes me alot,” Stoks said. He credits his success to “Pushing myself in practice and in the meets.” Canby-Minneota-Lincoln high took second to Marshall.

There they were at the finish line — one and two, not one from Canby and one from Minneota, but teammates — and friends. Canby’s Leah Jessen took the Canby-Minneota-Lincoln HI Invitational with a 16:39 with her best friend Sariah Cheadle of Minneota close behind at 17:27. “Canby and Minneota are arch rivals,” said Jessen. “But she ended up my best friend,” she said, pointing to Cheadle.
