I told them after we lost to Eastview on Friday that the best we could do was ninth place. So let’s go out and get ninth,” Minneota volleyball Coach Steph Hennen told her Vikings
And so they did. They won four and lost just one at the Molten’s Southwest Minnesota Challenge. Unfortunately, they lost their second match to Eastview of Apple Valley, 2-1, after winning the first game. Eastview was second in the state last year.
“I don’t know what happened. They were very tall and just rose up and beat us,” said hitter Sam Hennen.
A game earlier they’d beaten Litchfield, 2-0.
On Saturday the Vikings beat Waconia 25-20 and 25-18; then Bemidji 25-16 and 25-16 and finally they stunned Lakeville North, 25-21 and 25-16.
As the tournament opened, the  Vikings beat Litchfield 25-11 and 25-12. Playing probably their best volleyball of the year, the Minneota Vikings won their first game, then nearly upset Eastview of Apple Valley before losing,  25-22, 18-25 and 11-15.
The Vikings dominated Litchfield with solid digging from Kelsey Hennen and Leah Fadness (10 each) and 19 of 20 serving with seven aces from Taya Kockelman. Jenna Hennen led the team with eight kills.
Against Eastview, Jenna Hennen served eight of nine with three ages; Kelsey Hennen had 16 digs and Fadness 14. Sam Hennen led the team at the net with six kills.
Ashlynn Muhl, who has been injured, got back on the court in the tournament after the second match.
“I was very proud of the girls. They did a terrific job in a very tough field of 32 teams — and many of the teams were the best in the state,” said Coach Hennen.
Marshall won the tournament against Eastview, the team that beat Minneota.

FULDA, MN—"What we try to do is take the wind out of their sails early," said Coach Chad Johnston.

Minneota did just that Friday night, beating Fulda 52-6 to run the Viking football record to 2-0.

Fulda scored in the third period on the Vikings second team.

Minneota's other scoring included:

An 11-yard run by Brandon Anderson; a 38-yard touchdown run by Anderson; a 46-yard punt return for a score by Noyes; and an 11-yard touchdown pass from Derynck to Will Kurka for a 33-0 halftime lead.

In the second half they got a 29-yard run by Anderson; a five-yard Anderson touchdown run and a 34-yard touchdown run by Adam Josephson.
