Consider Russell-Tyler-Ruthton's fate.

They played the No. 1 team in Class A on Thursday night and lost 3-0 to the Minneota Vikings.

Now, they open the Marshall Tournament against Hutchinson, the No. 1 team in Class AA.

Whew!

Minneota methodically took the three games, 25-10; 25-14 and 25-12 to run its record to 3-0 on the year and 2-0 in the Camden Conference.

Minneota ran it's record to 2-0 and won their Camden Conference opener, beating Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, 3-0 Tuesday night at Kerkhoven.

They did it despite serving just over 80 percent, 58 of 72 on a night when KMS didn't serve any better.

But the rest of the game was intact despite what senior Haylee Davis called, "The air in here is different in this gym." She mean't it seemed to make the balls fly.

That may or may not have been the problem, but Jenna Hennen agreed. She served 16 of 20 and wasn't happy with her serving performance, despite the fact she hit six straight points in the final game.

Minneota took the three games 25-18; 25-16 and 25-9.

Early on The Saints would get fired up when they landed a point against the No. 1 ranked team in Class C. But with Davis landing eight kills and Ashlynn Muhl another 10, KMS had little chance to stay in the game.

Taya Kockelman, playing like the all-stater she is, also landed seven kills, served six of eight, had four digs, three blocks and 25 sets.

"I don't mind so much if we miss the jump serves," said Coach Steph Hennen. But she didn't like the low percentage on the others.

Kelsey Hennen led the team with 18 digs while Jenna Hennen addes six and both Davis and Katelyn Kack five each.

It was the "Game of the Week" in Minnesota — two state finalists in Class A going at each other to open the season.

But Thursday night the state champ, Minneota, would have little of that talk and rolled to a 49-12 win over Adrian.
