Memorial Day Services set in Minneota, Taunton

Memorial Day Services have been set in both Taunton and Minneota. And it will be possible to attend the services in the morning at Taunton and in the evening at Minneota.

The Taunton program begins at 9 a.m. at the Taunton Senior Center. Marc Klaith will present the key address and their will be a tribute to all veterans. The service will resume at the Taunton Cemetery.

Everyone is invited to return to the senior center for a community brunch following the service at the cemetery. Minneota, which will “Light the Lights” for veterans, will begin the ceremony at 7:30 p.m. at the Minneota American Legion building.

It will continue at Veteran’s Park, where flags, lights and crosses for the veterans will be displayed. Family and friends of veterans are being asked to contribute to the “Light to Light” program. There will be special presentations, reading of the Roll of the Dead and a gun salute.

The lights will them be lifted in an effort to remember all veterans. Those wishing to have names listed and willing to contribute a donation should contact Jim Fink, American Legion Commander or Allan Dovre at 872-6058.

There will also be the lighting of the new “Eternal Lights,” which have been contributed by families wishing to honor veterans. Those wanting pavers dedicated should contact the Minneota City Hall.

The Vietnam Memorial and History Center will be open for visitors on May 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
