Respect is lacking

A growing problem in communities is a lack of respect for each other. We see this in national and state media reports and I am seeing it here in Minneota.
The lack of respect, courtesy, kindness, and more are showing up in many of the calls for service I respond to. Many of these incidents are disputes between neighbors or family.
There was a time when the “social contract and social norms” were sufficient to direct an individual’s behavior positively and productively. People took pride in their actions and reputation. I encourage everyone to take a deep breath and a step back from the drama in their life. Think before acting. Be the “bigger person” and set the example. Give without expecting something in return. Treat others like you want to be treated. Don’t be drawn into fights and conflict. Walk away from those that hurt and use you.
We can be better and have better if we make some minor changes in how we think and react to the world around us.
