Reading series drew positive remarks

Thank you to former Minneotan, John Allen, who entertained a group at the library for the last of our Minnesota Connections reading series. All four events drew good crowds and we are pleased with the positive responses to the author events.
Thanks to all who attended.

What’s new at the library?
Another new book order is trickling in, and so we are adding books to our adult and juvenile collections. Check our Facebook page for pictures of new books.
Minneota Library is working with the Plum Creek Library System to update its web page. All the libraries are getting more cohesive and interactive web pages, along with a great new look. Use the web page to place a book on hold or order a book through Inter-Library Loan. Find the links to Hoopla and Libby for e-books and audio books, Scholastic’s Bookflix and Scienceflix, CreativeBug, Consumer Reports, car repair manuals, and Novelist. These resources are shared by the Plum Creek System. An extra bonus for Lyon County residents is Hoopla, which has movies, e-books, audio books, and more.
The Winter Reading Program is being planned earlier this year so that we can be ready sooner, allowing you “snowbirds” to sign up and participate. Can’t wait!
I would like to discuss two questions asked this week at the library. The first, “Are there Apps for digital audio books and can they be checked out?” The answer is yes, through Hoopla and Libby as I mentioned above. You can download the Hoopla and Libby Apps to your smart phone, computer, or tablet and start listening to or reading the digital collection.
The second question was whether we have an outdoor book drop. Yes! There is a book drop to return library books after hours near the back door of the library. Go to the alley and pull into the parking lot behind the library, and you will see the book drop by our back door.

John Allen, storyteller extraordinaire, read from his poems and short stories last Saturday at the Minneota Public Library. That marked the final event of the Minneota Connections reading series. Contributed photo
