The blessing and laying of the new cornerstone of the new St. Edward Catholic Church took place on July 9, 1913. On Sept. 12, 1913, the blessing of the new 2,300-pound church bell took place. The first Mass took place on Feb. 8, 1914. The Church of St. Edward the Confessor was designed by E.L. Masqueray, the architect of the Cathedral in St. Paul, the Basilica in Minneapolis, and the Cathedral in Sioux Falls.

Globe Land office
gets new stenographer
Miss Pearl Steadman of Mankato is now installed as the new stenographer in the Globe Land and Loan Company office. Miss Steadman arrived here recently. The young lady who came here from La Crosse, Wisconsin some time ago to take the job, concluded after only a week on the job, that it was too strenuous and returned to Wisconsin. Miss Steadman, we are told, goes at the work like a veteran.

Minneota cagers to
play Marshall for title
The Minneota High School basketball team will travel to Canby on Friday evening to play off the tie for the West End championship of this district against Marshall. The Minneota band will go up with the team, while a special coach bus for both the Marshall and Minneota fans.

Weather mild for
last two months
The last two months January and February, have been the finest for weather that anyone in this locality remembers, including those who have lived here since the early (18)70s. There have been no blizzards and no severe cold. Most of the time we have had mild, almost balmy spring and fall weather. There also has not been much sickness and what there has been has not been severe.

Donations to fund
new hall at $11,000
Although the Legion's drive for funds for a community building was not nearly completed, the total cash donations have gone up to $11,000 by Wednesday evening. Members of the building committee expressed satisfaction in the manner residents of the surrounding townships were donating to the fund. The Legion's building committee has contacted an architect who will meet with them during the first part of March regarding erection of the building here.

Membership goals
set for 4-H clubs
The change from a world at war to a world at peace presents Lyon County 4-H clubs new goals to meet and new problems to consider during National 4-H Club Week from March 2-10. About 400 Lyon County youths joined nearly 2,000,000 national and 43,000 Minnesota club members in making 1945 victory year on the farm front. The 1946 membership goal for Minnesota has been set at 53,000, with 600 as the Lyon County goal.

Local train service
now back to normal
Train service, which had been at almost a complete standstill on this line of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad since the February 5 blizzard, was back to normal last Saturday, but struck a snag again on Tuesday of this week when snow filled the cuts which had been cleared along the track west of Gary, SD. Thursday, however, the tracks had been cleared and trains were again making runs through here.

Snow Queen, King
named at school
Claire Boucquey, an exchange student from Belgium attending high school in Minneota, and Terry Kronabetter, a member of the senior class, were selected as the school's "Snow Queen and King" and were suitably robed and crowned during a Snow Dance after a basketball game on the evening of Feb. 12. Miss Boucquey is staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wyffels. Kronabetter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kronabetter.

Two named to MGT
board of directors
The Minneota, Ghent and Taunton Cooperative Oil Company has two new members on its board of directors as the result of action taken at the annual meeting of stockholders Tuesday afternoon. The two are Walter Gillund and Paul Myrvik and they take positions which had previously been occupied by S. Frank Josephson and Joe Gislason. Gillund is to represent the surrounding community at large and Myrvik will represent the area northeast of Minneota.

Four win piano
contest in Marshall
Four Minneota piano students who participated in the Minnesota Music Teachers Association contest held at the Fine Arts building at Southwest State University in Marshall recently, were winners and will compete in the state contest in March. Lois Bot, Pamela Bot, Bruce Bot and Neal Bot all received scores of 94 or 94 out of a possible 95. Students played compositions required by the MMTA according to their age level.

Green Door to open
under new ownership
The Green Door Supper Club, which had been closed since the death of its owner, Wilbur Peterson last fall, will open Friday. The new owners are Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ness of Redwood Falls and will be under the management of her son, Larry Mills. The club is located 11 miles north of Minneota.

Wrestlers advance
to state tournament
The Minneota Vikings wrestling team defeated BOLD 34-20 this past weekend to win the Region 4B championship. Minneota (18-2) will face Goodhue (20-2) in the quarterfinals of the state wrestling tournament Thursday night at the St. Paul Civic Center. Minneota beat Wabasso in the first round of the regionals 49-12, then topped Canby 27-21 to reach the region title match. Coach Joel Skillings was named the Region 4B Coach of the Year.

Daffodil Days are
coming to county
Fresh, field-grown daffodils, the American Cancer Society's Symbol of Hope in their fight against cancer, will be offered by volunteers in a special event that emphasizes the spirit of renewed life and the coming of spring. Nearly two million fresh flowers will be trucked to Minnesota from Washington. Daffodil Days In Lyon County will be March 11-16. Volunteers will be passing out the flowers and accepting donations that will further cancer research.

Snowfall well above
average for winter
The snowfall average for this area during the winter is 40 inches. As of Feb. 27, there has been a recorded 47 inches of snow this season, according to unofficial local weather recording sources. Another two inches of snow fell Monday. The forecast calls for no snow this week, but much colder temperatures are expected.
