All School program
slated at Opera Hall
There will be an All School program next Wednesday at the Opera Hall, at which time both the elementary and high school children will take part. This will be the only program of its kind this year and there should be a large attendance to show the children that the people are interested in what they are doing.

Still, moonshine found
by local authorities
County Attorney Matthews, Deputy Sheriff Regnier and Mr. Clark of Marshall were in town Tuesday evening. They had been out here in the country and found a still and some "moonshine" at a farm not far from here. They found the still in an old straw stack. The farmer on whose place the still was found has been up for the same offense before.

School here gets high
marks from inspector
Mr. Phillips, the state high school inspector, was in Minneota last week and inspected the local school. He found it to be in very satisfactory condition. Mr. Phillips said that the only change he had to suggest was that the building was too crowded for the best results, but was holding off on demanding new buildings.

4-H girls honored
for outstanding work
Two 4-H Club members in this community, Lorraine Bottelberghe and Jeanette Claeys, both members of the Eidsvold "Lucky Star" club, were among those presented awards by County Agent F.J. Meade for outstanding club work in 1945. These awards were presented for outstanding work in demonstrations and project work and are in the form of pins and keys.

$12,000 repair fund
raised by St. Ed's
Parishioners of St, Edward's Catholic Church have donated a total of $12,000 during a drive conducted last week to raise funds for repairing and redecorating the church building, Rev. Philip Casey said. A new roof will be put on the church edifice and the interior of the building is to be completely redecorated and other improvements made. Such repairs as are needed will also be made on the other buildings belonging to the church.

Returned veteran to play
with Vikings in playoffs
James Sumption, a returned serviceman who received his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy on Feb. 19, will play with the Minneota Vikings in the district basketball tournament in Marshall on Thursday evening. Sumption entered the Navy in January of 1944 and during his service saw action in the South Pacific. According to regulations, Sumption had to be in school for two weeks before he could play, thus he was not permitted to play in last week's sub-district game,

Locy opens photo
studio in Minneota
Another Minneota business, forced to shut down because of wartime, was re-opened this week when Julius Locy opened his photography studio in his variety store here. Locy was forced to close in 1943 and sold all his photography equipment. He recently purchased all new equipment.

Board/faculty salary
talks underway here
Salary negotiations are now underway at the local public school between the board of education and the teachers. As provided by the "meet and confer" law passed by the 1967 state legislature, representatives of both the local teachers' association and the board of education have been meeting. The salary offer for the 1971-72 school year presented by the board to teachers calls for a base increase of $100 in the present schedule. That would mean a $7,000 base salary for a starting teacher with a four-year degree.

Kronabetter qualifies
for state wrestling
Terry Kronabetter, a Minneota senior, won the 154-pound region title this past weekend and qualified for the state wrestling tournament on Friday and Saturday in Minneapolis. He is the first Minneota wrestler to win a region championship, defeating previously unbeaten Dave Guggisberg of Fairfax in the finals. Kronabetter's record this season is 19-0-1.

Airman White receives
commendation medal
Technical Sergeant Lowell J. White, the son Mrs. Sophie White of Minneota, has received the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Sergeant White was decorated for meritorious service as a ground radio communications technician at Finland Air Force Base in Minnesota. He is a 1951 Minneota graduate.

Fier is 103-pound
state champion
Kris Fier captured the 103-pound state wrestling championship this past weekend in Minneapolis. Fier, a junior at Minneota, finished the season with a 38-2 record. He won all six of his matches at the state tournament, four in the individual tournament and two in the team tournament. He is Minneota's first state champion. Bruce Laleman placed second in the state at 112 pounds, losing an overtime match in the finals. Scott Fier was fourth at 160 pounds and Travis Gillund was sixth at 135. Minneota placed fourth as a team in the tournament.

Daffodil sales to
be held this week
The Ghent, Minneota, Taunton (GMT) Women of Today will be taking part at helping with the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days sales the week of March 11-16. Daffodils signal the arrival of spring, and the proceeds from the sale of the flowers will benefit cancer research, education and service rehabilitation programs in the community.
