Woodmen Deputy
on recruiting trail
P.M. Bergm the Woodmen Deputy for this district, traveled to Marshall on Tuesday evening where he met with the Woodmen Camp. Berg is attempting to recruit new members and is making a good showing of it

No place like home
for two local couples
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Moorse and Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Orsen arrived in Minneota on Sunday following a lengthy stay in California. They had been spending a few months with friends and relatives on the west coast. They were pleased with the coast country, but the old home ties were too strong to permit staying permanently.

Gislason returns from
St. Paul with advice
Hon. J.B. Gislason came up from St. Paul last Saturday and said the solons are busy and that they expect to accomplish a good deal in the time that is left. He says that they are sitting on the lid of the treasury as it never has been sat upon before and that if county and municipal officers would do the same amount of "pruning" as the solons are doing, the taxes of the people would come down materially.

Small vote cast at
township elections
Few voters took the trouble to cast their votes at the annual township meetings held Tuesday when officials were elected and levies set for the coming year. In some townships, the levies went up a little over the figures set for last year, but generally remained the same. A total of 28 people voted in Eidsvold township, 15 in Burton, 31 in Nordland, 22 in Westerheim, 20 in Swede Prairie, and 40 in Island Lake.

MBA members discuss
hospital at meeting
Members of the Minneota Businessmen's Association, meeting at Carl's Cafe with a large attendance on Tuesday, had one of the liveliest sessions in recent years when discussion for a hospital for this village, business enterprises and the housing situation all came up for discussion. Also at the meeting, five new members, Supt. R.T. Lovell, Homer Everly, J.E. Askdal, Emil Bottelberghe and Julius Locy were admitted to the association.

Creamery concerned
with bottle shortage
Minneota creamery staff members announced that there is a bottle shortage and there will be no milk available unless patrons return some of the empty milk bottles that are still out. The shortage is rally acute, Mrs. Forrest Glasser, the bookkeeper at the creamery, told the Mascot. The creamery took out an ad to urge patrons to return their empty bottles.

Minneota loses to
Lynd in playoffs
After defeating Hendricks and Cottonwood in the boys basketball district tournament, Minneota lost to Lynd and finished the season 13-10. Douglas Konold was named to the all-district team.

50 Years Ago

Council discusses water,
sewer at last meeting
The village's water supply and its sewer system came for lengthy discussion at a village council meeting Monday evening, and while no solutions were forthcoming for the problems, many varied opinions were expressed. Present at the meeting were Elmer Christianson of Minneota, a member of the staff of the Division of Soils, Water and Minerals of the State of Minneota, and Hiller Holien, local well driller.

Jerry's Supply robbed
of cash, merchandise
Burglars gained entrance by breaking plate if the front door of Jerry's Supply here early Sunday morning and made off with $76 in cash and some merchandise. The burglary was discovered around 7:15 a.m. when Mr. Vlaminck opened the store. Though they took some cash, the burglars left checks scattered around and over $24 in loose change on the floor. The damage to the door, along with the stolen cash and merchandise amounted to around $200.

Josephson presented
50-year Masonry pin
Fred Josephson received his 50-year Masonic membership pin recently. Josephson first became a member of the Masonry when he joined Equality Lodge #238 AF&AM in Minneota in 1946. He became Master in 1951. He went on to join the Scottish Rite in 1971 an the Zurah Temple of the Shrine in 1972. He was President of the Marshall Lodge in 1974 and presently is a member of the Canby Lodge. He is the brother of Frank and David Josephson of this city.

Worker dies following
feed mill accident
Martine Catarino, who had been employed at the Buysse Inc. farm, died last week from injuries he sustained in an accident while working with a feed mill at the farm. The accident occurred when he was pulled into a grain bin and subsequently submerged in the grain for several minutes. The Minneota Fire Department was called to the scene and Mr. Catarino was rushed by ambulance to Wiener Memorial Medical Center in Marshall and then transferred to Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Library now has
outdoor book return
The Minneota Public Library now sports an outside book return receptacle for the convenience of all local readers. Located just outside the front door, the book return is to be used for all library returns when the library is not open, such as books, tapes or videos. Memorials for this book return were made by the Eric Heggeseth family, Helene Fraser Howell, and Dr. James Day.
