All 10 players watched Dennis Fox (24) of Minneota take a shot in this game between the Vikings and Tracy Scrappers in this District 9 clash on March 4 , 1972 at Marshall High School. Minneota beat No. 1-seeded Tracy, 48-45. Jeff Seifert led Minneota with 19 points, Chuck Dalager had 12 points and Steve Boogaard 10.

Woodmen Camp moves
to Legion Hall here
The Woodmen Camp has moved its quarters to the American Legion Hall, which has been rented by the camp. The members of the camp will hold a social meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Cards, chess, checkers and other games will be the order of the evening and refreshments will be served. Every member of the camp is urged to be present and join in the social evening.

Call goes out for
rug weaver in area
There is considerable call for the services of a rug weaver in this area. Currently, there is no one in the country that specializes in this craft. Anyone who can weave rugs should go into business as there is a great need and it would bring considerable business to whatever town they begin the business in.

Bottelberghe sells auto
accessories store here
In a transaction completed last Thursday, Joe Gislason and Frank Janssen, both of Minneota, bought the Economy Auto Accessories stock and business from Emil Bottelberghe. The new owners announce that the store will be closed until Saturday so that invoicing may be completed and the interior of the building redecorated. They also say that they will continue to conduct the store along the same lines as in the past and that they intend to add a number of items to make the stock more complete.

Carl Muhl opening
barber shop in town
Minneota will have another barber shop, the third one here, when Carl Muhl opens his shop on Friday morning in the former Standard Oil station building across the street from the Big Store. Muhl has remodeled the interior of the building and has installed all the facilities necessary for a barber shop. He has been operating a barber shop in Ghent lately, and before that had a shop in Taunton.

Conference at Hope
Lutheran Church
A Workers' Conference of the Women's Missionary Federation, Lac qui Parle circuit, will be held at Hope Lutheran Church Feb. 25. The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the church and lunch will be served in the Legion Hall afterwards. Mrs. J. David Larsen will sing during the program a at the church. All Ladies Aid officers, department secretaries and pastors' wives in the circuit are expected to attend the conference.

Fallen hay bales
kill local farmer
Farm worker Henry Riecke, 60, was killed late Thursday afternoon when hay bales fell on him and apparently suffocated him on the Roseville Josephson farm north of Minneota, where he had worked for about 20 years. It is thought that hay bales fell on Mr. Riecke around 4 p.m. and was found dead by Mr. Josephson an hour later. Riecke was preparing to haul hay to cattle in the Josephson farmyard. He is survived by his wife and four children.

Heggeseth receives
Homemaker Award
Phyllis Heggeseth, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Heggeseth of rural Minneota and a member of the high school senior class, was named "Betty Crocker's Homemaker of Tomorrow for 1972". She was presented an award by her home economics instructor, Terry Kaelke. Heggeseth was chosen on the basis of her score in a written knowledge and aptitude test taken by senior girls across the state. A state winner will now be selected from all the winners and that winner will be eligible for national honors.

Two wrestlers win
individual district titles
Two Minneota High School wrestlers emerged as champions in their respective weight classes as the District 9 tournament Saturday in Canby. Junior Richard Callens (20-1) won the 98-pound division, while senior Lambert Roles (19-3) won the 180-pound division. Ken Gillund was third in the 155-pound class. Callens and Roles will now advance to the Region 3 meet Friday in Montevideo. Canby won the team title with Marshall placing second, Tracy third and Minneota fourth.

Baugher wins national
Christmas card contest
Rita Baugher, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Baugher of Minneota and a seventh grader at St. Edward's School, was named the national winner in her age group in the December contest for artwork of an original Christmas card. Her name was published in the February issue of the St. Anthony Messenger. The cards which the students made were given to the elderly of a nursing home after they were judged.

Students visit Capitol
a part of Project 120
Four Minneota High School students visited with Secretary of State Joan Growe at the State Capitol during the legislative session. Scott Anderson, Jordan Schaefer, Wade Skaar and Jacob Murray spent a week attending various sessions at the Capitol at part of Project 120, a program of the Institute for Learning and Teaching. It is an educational experience in the bipartisan political process for young people. Growe spoke with the students about her duties as a Constitutional Officer, and her role as chief elections official of Minnesota.

Community Ed Tubing
Night at Garvin Park
The Minneota Community Education is sponsoring a family night of fun at Garvin Park on Feb. 22. A bus will take those who sign up to the park. This is the only night the tubing hill is available and Minneota people will be the only ones using the tubing hill that night. The event is free and open to a first-come, first-serve basis.

Jaycees receive several
awards; members needed
Karen Swedzinski, a member of the local Jaycees, received the Statesman Award recently. That is the highest Achievement Award in the state of Minnesota, and she was nominated by the local chapter for her hard work and dedication. The Minneota organization was awarded the Bronze Performer's Club, which is awarded to the top 30 chapters in the state. They also received the Founders Award for founding the Jasper and Marshall Jaycee chapters. D.J. Prellwitz was given several awards for her outstanding work as Regional Director of the Southwest Region.
