Pemberton takes new
position in Wayzata
Professor L.R. Pemberton traveled to Wayzata yesterday, being asked to come there by the Board of Education of that village as they are looking for a new superintendent of the large consolidation school there. Mr. Pemberton seems to have made quite a hit with them. Should he find a place that he prefers to Minneota, this school will lose one of the most efficient superintendents we have had here.

Students return home
after fire at college
Miss Ida Rye, Miss Oddny Askdal and Peter Stone came up from Mankato the latter part of last week and are spending a 10-day vacation with their parents here. They are all students at the Mankato Normal School. The buildings in which the school was houses were destroyed by fire some weeks ago and the students are now scattered all over town as classes are being conducted in various churches and other public buildings.

Vets get first
chance at homes
Six houses, built according to the FHA program, and which veterans will have first chance at purchasing, will be erected by the Norman Olafson Construction Company here during the coming building season. These homes will be erected on lots in the eastern part of Minneota, across the street from the E.M. Swanson residence. At least four more homes will be erected in the coming months, making a total of 10 houses. The houses will be two and three bedrooms, all modern, and built on 50- and 60-foot lots.

25th anniversary of
Jokull wrestling win
Friday of this week is the 25th anniversary of probably the best-remembered sporting event ever held in Minneota. Peter Jokull, who now lives in Minneapolis, defeated Peter Dhease, who billed himself as the "Southern Minnesota Champion, in the ring at the Anderson Opera House. Many here will recall the event and the thrill they received when Jokull won the decision. Jokull had never wrestled before Dhease came to town and agreed to take on anyone who wanted to wrestle him. In 10 minutes, Jokull stood with his foot on Dhease's chest in victory as the 200 people in attendance roared their approval.

Hanson wins 3rd
in state contest
Melvin Hanson, the manager of the Minneota Cooperative Creamery, won third place in the state for year-round efficiency of operation of the creamery plant here with an average of 99.68 and was given a special award of merit at a meeting of Land O' Lakes Creameries in St. Paul on Thursday. R.L. Haraldson, a former resident of Minneota, who now manages a creamery in Lamberton, won first place with a score of 99.71.

Elementary principal
retires from post here
The resignation of Mrs. Clair Frakes, elementary principal at the Minneota Public School, was accepted by the board of education at its regular meeting last week. Mrs. Frakes, who has been a member of the faculty here for 27 years, has announced that she will retire from teaching at the end of the current school term. A life-long resident of this area, Mrs. Frakes has taught a total of 43 years. She has been elementary principal here for the past 20 years.

Raeder named new
manager of Co-op
Albert E. Raeder of Webster, SD has accepted the position as manager of the Minneota-Ghent-Taunton Cooperative Oil Company the first of next month. Raeder will take over the duties which have been handled by the present manager, Harold Jackson, who held the post for four years and will take over a new job as district supervisor for Central Exchange. Rader is a graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings and holds a Master of Science degree in agriculture economics.

Council discusses
civic problems here
Civic problems and how to go about solving them took up most of the discussion by council members at their meeting on Monday evening. Such things as an ordinance against burning in the open, tree trimming, water run-off from melting snow and rain, and sewer problems took up the major portion of the council members' attention. No definite action was taken on any of these matters.

Local farm couple
injured in auto crash
Mr. and Mrs. Cyril VandenBroecke of rural Minneota suffered bruises and cuts last Friday evening around 10 p.m. when the auto they were riding in was crashed into in the rear by a car driven by Lawrence Noyes of Porter. The accident happened in the east village limits. The VandenBroecke's were driving into Minneota from Marshall. Noyes and a passenger were uninjured. It was reported that Noyes lost control of his vehicle on the icy road and hit the VandenBroecke's vehicle, which rolled over several times after going into the ditch.

Math League students
earn recognition awards
Scott Anderson, Jacob Murray, Stephanie Johnson, Eric Wallen, Joel Hagen, Michyl Dalager and Paul Timmerman all members of the Minneota Senior High Math League received awards recently for their excellent season of competition. Pete Van Vooren is the team's coach. These students were awarded for placing in the top three during competitions for Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, and Advanced Topics.

Dorenkamper honored
for Girl Scouts service
Doreen Dorenkamper was recognized for 20 years of service to the Minneota Service Unit and the Peacepipe Girl Scout Council during the Minneota Court of Awards celebration held on Girl Scouts Sunday, March 9. Laurie Palmer, Field Director, presented the award and thanks Dorenkamper for countless hours of troop leadership, product sales coordination. Council committee work, direction of Day Camp, Service Unit positions, and as a troop coordinator. She is retiring from Girl Scouting this fall.

Johnson hired as
town's Police Chief
At the special City Council meeting held on Monday, March 10, the Minneota City Council hired Eric Johnson to serve as Chief of Police. Officer Johnson has been serving the city as a police officer for approximately the last seven months.

Fire Department to
host dance March 15
The Minneota Fire Department are preparing for their annual dance. Funds are used to purchase additional equipment each year. The dance is scheduled for Saturday, March 15 at the Minneota American Legion Hall. Minneota's own Roxbury Drive will provide the music for the dance. The Minneota Fire Department currently has 26 members. Jerry Kloos has been the Fire Chief since 1974.
