Outside Looking In

Icelandic tulips
Last summer, Kristjan Schram, his wife Elizabeth Nunberg and their children and their partners all traveled to Minneota to visit. Kristjan and Elizabeth were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1994 even though neither of them ever lived here.
Kristjan’s great grandfather, Kristjan Gunther Schram, helped build the church and the couple wanted to be married there. Bill Holm played the organ in the loft at the wedding.
When they visited Kritjan’s great grandfather’s gravesite, they wanted to plant some flower bulbs. Joanne Myrvik graciously dug some up at her residence and gave them to Kristjan and Elizabeth to plant.
Myrvik and I ran into one another at Gislason’s Hardware on Saturday during the Spring Blowout and she reminded me about the tulips.
I drove out to the cemetery and was surprised to see the tulips were already peeking out of the ground.
Tulips are emerging all over town following a lengthy winter, adding a little color than the white we were getting used to seeing.

Memorial Day
The Roll Call of the Dead, which lists local veterans who are no longer with us, will again appear in the Mascot.
Because the list has grown so large, the names are no longer read during the Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Park. The Mascot began printing the entire list in its Memorial Day issue a few years ago.
If anyone wants to add a name to the list this year, contact Sandy Josephson at 320-815-7829 as soon as possible.
The list will be printed in the Thursday, May 25 issue of the Mascot.

Veterans Park preparations
All VFW and American Legion members that are available are asked to meet at Veterans Park 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22 to set up crosses and flags for the upcoming Memorial Day services.
The Minneota-Taunton VFW is hosting the Memorial Day program this year. It will begin at 10 a.m. at the American Legion, The Honor Guard will then walk over to Veterans Park to continue the program there.

Graduation
It's hard to believe sometimes how fast time goes, but graduation is upon us once again.
The commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 in the high school gymnasium.
This is a special group of seniors that will long be remembered for its many athletic, academic and art achievements.
