Light 'em up!

Light 'em up!
The Mascot's second annual "Battle of the Bulbs" Christmas Lighting Contest has been set for 2021.
Homeowners wishing to participate must register by Monday, Dec. 13. Judges will then view the homes on Saturday, Dec. 18 and Sunday, Dec. 19.
We originally had set last year's contest to have prize packages for the top three places. Because of the overwhelming response of business and individuals donating prizes, we added fourth- and fifth-place prizes. Last year's lighting contest drew 29 participants. First place received over $500 in gifts and certificates, second was over $250 and third was over $100. Fourth and fifth place received $75 and $50 in gift cards, respectively.
The contest is free to enter and includes the communities of Minneota, Ghent and Taunton. Participants must be within a 10-mile radius of Minneota.
Fill out the registration form in this week's Mascot (it will also be available in upcoming issues up until Dec. 9) and mail it in or drop it off at the Mascot office. If the Mascot is closed, insert your registration in the black box outside the front door.
We will have several judges for the contest again this year. Homeowners are asked to leave their display lights on both Dec. 18 and 19 for judging.
This is a fun event that the family can participate in and helps bring the holiday spirit to these communities. We're hoping to have even more participation than last year. As they say, "The more the merrier."
Last year, several community members mentioned how much more the town was "lit up" than usual.
It also helps the local businesses if you purchase your decorations and lights from them since they are sponsoring the event by donating prizes.

Gobble, gobble time
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Many of you can tell by the rumbling already starting up in your stomach.
The annual Thanksgiving Feast at Bethel Fellowship Church will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25. Serving will begin at noon.
The free family-style meal is prepared and served by members of Bethel Fellowship and includes turkey and ham with all the trimmings, including mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, squash, dressing, cranberries, bread, pie and ice cream, and beverage.
Bethel Fellowship Church has been preparing the free Thanksgiving Feast for nine years and generally draws a big crowd. The feast had to be cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We want this to be a community event where we come together and visit, pray and enjoy a meal," said Pastor Tom Nomeland.
RSVP is urged in order to get an approximate number of people planning to attend before ordering the food to be prepared.
To RSVP, please call Pastor Nomeland at 507-872-6498.
