HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Minneota/Canby ran into a buzzsaw as Russell-Tyler-Ruthton's Kya Alderson struck out 20 batters over 10 innings in the Knights' 10-0 and 17-1 sweep on Monday in Minneota.
Alderson struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in each game, while tossing a one-hitter in the opener and a two-hitter in the second game.
Laken Baartman and Whitney Bruns had two hits and an RBI each in the first game. Baartman and Sarah Hanson were each 2-for-3, with three RBI in game two.
Isabelle Hulzebos recorded the lone hit for the Vikings (5-4) in the opener, while Rachel Fairchild had a double and Kenadi Arndt added a single in the finale.
Brooke DeSmet took the loss in the first game and Joelle Otto absorbed the loss in the second game.

Vikings split with Lakers
Minneota/Canby plated 20 runs in the first game against Lakeview on Tuesday, April 25, overcoming 11 errors with eight hits, six walks, a hit batter, and eight Laker errors in a 20-6 victory.
AshleeAnn Cole Frazeur rapped a two-run home run, singled and scored three runs in the opener. Kiersyn Hulzebos, Faith Myhre, Isabelle Hulzebos, Dakota Pesch and Kenadi Arndt also drove in two runs.
Brooke DeSmet pitched all five innings for the win, allowing five hits and no earned runs.
Lakeview rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the second game, scoring four times in the top of the sixth inning and then withheld a late Viking rally for an 8-7 win. Minneota/Canby plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk to AshleeAnn Cole Frazeur, a run-scoring groundout by Dakota Pesch, and an RBI single by Joelle Otto. But the Vikings couldn’t push the tying run across.
Kiersyn Hulzebos went 3-for-6 in the two games, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs. Cole Frazeur also was 3-for-6 while knocking in three runs. Arndt went 3-for-5.
