Everyone is preparing for back-to-school COVID-style, and the library may have some answers for parents who find that their children’s school days are where they are learning from home as much as learning at school.
Perhaps you have always home-schooled, so this resource I’m going to tell you about might be just what you’re looking for.
Scholastic Library Publishing has made available to public libraries a webpage that features BookFlix, ScienceFlix and Watch & Learn Library. Plum Creek Library System has subscribed to this learning resource for all of its libraries. All you need in order to use this resource is to have internet access and a library card (both are available to you if you stop in the library).
If you already have a library card and access to the internet, go to plumcreeklibrary.org/Minneota. You will see the heading: New Scholastic Digital Resources Available for Young Learners with three links underneath it. BookFlix and Watch & Learn Library are geared for grades K-3 and ScienceFlix is geared for grades 4-9.
A Scholastic representative called me last week and gave me some training over the phone. You can explore the site yourself and discover its many wonderful features. If you want help getting started, just stop at the library. Both librarians will be able to help you.
I’d like to remind everyone that while the library is open at its usual hours, we also offer "curbside pick-up." If you do not wish to enter the library due to COVID-19, we can check out books to you with your library card number and then bring them out to you.
Just call the library at 507-872-5473 to arrange for pick-up during our working hours. Minneota Public Library hours are: Tuesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 10 a .m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to noon; Closed Sunday and Monday.
