‘Light up the Night’ to be held in Marshall

The first annual “Light up the Night” celebration hosted by Prairie Home Hospice will continue until Dec. 31 at the Southwest Minnesota State University campus in Marshall.

There are three ways the lights can be viewed; by foot, vehicle or hay ride. There was a steady stream of visitors to see the lights this past weekend, taking advantage of the unusual mild temperatures.

While viewing the lights, tune in to 92.7 FM to enjoy holiday music from 5-10 p.m. during all of the Light up the Night event dates.

The event began with a Tree of Lights Remembrance Ceremony on Nov. 30 and concludes with a New Year’s Eve party and fireworks show on Dec. 31.

In between will be numerous holiday activities for all ages.

“We are very excited to provide this event for the region,” said Pat Mellenthin, Prairie Home Hospice CEO.

“The ‘Light to Remember’ ceremonies are not changing. However, Marshall’s site will change to the SMSU campus and will part of the kickoff for the new annual event, ‘Light up the Night’, a holiday light show.”

The event will be held Thursday through Sunday evenings from 5-9:30 p.m. throughout December with the exception of Christmas Eve.

Lights will continue to shine on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Included in the activities each evening will be a winter wonderland of lights, horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday carolers, musical entertainment, gather around the holiday campfire, and special holiday concessions.

Holy Redeemer is also presenting a Live Manger scene from 6:30-8 p.m. each night of the event.

The event concludes with a Rockin’ New Year’s Eve party at the SMSU Regional Event Center. Tickets are available for that event at Prairie Home Hospice or HyVee in Marshall, or call 507-337-0080.

 From now until Dec. 30, the Lyon County Historical Society Museum in Marshall will be hosting the 5th annual Indoor Christmas Tree Walk.

Decorated trees put together by area businesses and non-profit organizations will stay lit until Dec. 30.

Vote for your favorite tree or trees by placing money in the present next to the tree.

The museum is decked out for the holidays, too.
