Adams project payment is complete

The Minneota City Council has approved the final payment of $22,018 on the total Adams Street sewer and water project cost of $2,201,855.50 to Duininck, Inc.

“All work has been completed,” said City Engineer Trent Bruce.

“The only thing still withstanding is the warranty period, which means you still have the opportunity to come back to the contractor to make repairs,” said the engineer.

The council also approved proposed assessments for the project. The total assessments will be $226,300. The state requires the city make some assessments from projects. A public hearing to access property owners was set for October 25, 2017 at the city offices.

Anyone being assessed will get a letter in the mail and owners of all affected property have a right to attend the hearing.

Finally, the council approved a deferral of an assessment indicating any assessments will be deferred with interest, compounded annually, until such time as it is deemed the applicant no longer qualifies or the property loses eligibility.

Townships join city for elections

The City of Minneota will host the 2018 elections at city hall for the city plus Nordland and Westerheim Townships.

The three have agreed to combine into one single, accessible, combined polling place. All costs of new voting equipment will be shared by the three and divided equally based on total registered voters. Voting hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for primary and general elections.

IN OTHER action the board:

•Approved a request by Jon Buysse and Brad Minnehan of Highway 68 liquor to pay for the cost of replacing asphalt at the store on Highway 68. The asphalt at the liquor store was torn up by the city during storm sewer construction.

City Councilman Jerry Teigen said it was only fair to replace the asphalt for the business owners. The council agreed to pay $2,800 for the value of the asphalt that was taken out for the improvements. Councilman Tim Koppien abstained because he works for Highway 68 Liquor.

•Approved zoning permits for:

—Dale and Missy Kockelman of 101 N. Wilson St. for a 16x28 addition to a single car garage.

—Larry Teigland of 403 N. Monroe for an addition to his home.

—Frank White of 106 North Jackson St. for a 30x30-foot garage. He also will use the old garage behind the new garage.
