Another trophy for Minneota speech team

The Minneota Viking Speech Team has been pushing some of the best speech teams in the area. And Saturday at Redwood Falls, the varsity brought home another second place trophy in the small school division — just two points shy of first place.
Several Vikings were able to break into the top six in their respective categories.
In Duo, Minneota saw both of its entries called to the front.
Brenden Kimpe and Jacob Haen took fifth while Tara Thooft and Natalie Bot took fourth.
Then Kimpe was back up front for Extemperaneous Speaking, where he placed third.
Great Speeches was next and Sarah Engels took home second place honors and Emma Lipinski earned a ribbon.
Jacob Haen’s Humorous entry took a second place; Sean Dilley was second in Informative and Natalie Bot received a ribbon for her poetry reading.
Cole Bot continued Minneota’s string of success with a second in Prose and Thomas Belaen was fifth in Storytelling with Zoe DeBoer taking home a ribbon.
 It was the first meet for Tara Thooft, Natalie Bot, and Zoe DeBoer.

Junior High success
The Vikings hosted their Third Annual Junior High Meet last week.
The home team was well-represented during the awards presentation with several Vikings taking home awards.
Morgen Wersal and Katie Walerius were second and third in Dramatic Interpretation.
Emma Lipinski was the champion in Great Speeches.
A trio of Humorous competitors received awards for the Vikings. Reagan Bierschenk received a ribbon while Ella Bot and Teagan Welsh were first and second respectively.
The trio in Original Oratory all placed in the top six. Ryanna Waldner took fifth, Alyssa Engels was third, and Autumn Dovre finished in second.
In Poetry, Cora Engels was second. Ben Engels took second in Prose. Joey Clark and Thomas Belaen were second and third in Storytelling. The team on top with a total of 70 points.
Competing in their first meets were sixth graders Cora Fischer, Joe Voit and Ryanna Waldner.
Thursday found the junior high team in action for the second time that week, as they traveled to Luverne.
After three rounds of competition, three Viking Speakers were crowned champion of their categories: Teagan Welsh in Humorous; Autumn Dovre in Original Oratory and Ben Engels in Prose.
Also receiving awards at the meet were: Cora Fischer, second in Poetry; Katie Walerius, third in Drama; Emma Lipinski, third in Great Speeches. Morgen Wersal was sixth in Drama.

COMING UP: The Vikings will be in action twice this week. On Thursday, the Junior High team will attend the TMB Jr. High Meet. On Saturday, the Varsity team will head down to Adrian for the Dragon Invitational.
