Avera Marshall to Open Dialysis Center

Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center has announced plans to open an outpatient Dialysis Center on the hospital campus in Marshall.

A public open house is planned for May 14 from 4-6 p.m. An on-site outpatient Dialysis Center is slated to open in June 2018. It is located on the ground floor of Avera Marshall and will be open three days a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The center features six patient stations, including one isolation station.

Having the dialysis center located on the medical center campus will give patients close access to a full range of additional on-site medical services including clinics and the Emergency Department.

The location will also give patients same-day lab results which can be integrated into their electronic medical record for physician review. For patient comfort and convenience, stations are furnished with specialized chairs with heat, massage and personalized televisions.

“Dialysis is life-sustaining care for people with end-stage kidney disease. Adding this service will allow us to more fully meet the needs of our patients who look to us for their care.

Health care organizations are becoming increasingly responsible for managing the full health needs of their patients. Adding dialysis services will expand our continuum of care for patients who need dialysis,” said Mary Maertens, Regional President and CEO, Avera Marshall.

Staff include experienced registered nurses and technicians as well as a social worker and dietitian. Local dialysis services are supported with expertise from Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls.

Avera offers a high level of expertise in kidney care services from nephrology and dialysis to kidney and pancreas transplant.

Avera’s kidney specialists will partner with local primary care providers for coordinated, seamless care.

Avera nephrologists will offer routine consultations, and telemedicine technology is available to connect Avera Dialysis to nephrologists and the full range of specialty providers throughout the Avera network.
