Chasing Our Tails purchases packing plant in Sleepy Eye

Chasing Our Tails, Inc., which advertises itself as a global leader in pet treat development, manufacturing, and sales has recently reached an agreement to purchase the Seneca Foods Corporation packing plant in Sleepy Eye, MN for an undisclosed price.
The plant was formerly owned by Del Monte Foods.
The New York-based Seneca Foods Corporation purchased the packing plant from Del Monte Foods in April of 2019 for $2 million, according to a certificate of real estate value.
The facility, which dates to the 1930s, shut its doors in the fall of 2018 as part of consolidation effort by Del Monte, a unit of Del Monte Pacific Limited of Singapore. The shutdown resulted in roughly 75 full-time job cuts.
Chasing Our Tails plans to use the nearly 215,000 square-foot facility in support of expanded packaging operations and new business lines.
The deal is contingent upon a number of factors, including financing and business outlook considerations, but if successful, is expected to generate 50 jobs in the next two years.
Chasing Our Tails currently, which manufactures dehydrated and freeze-dried pet treats, has a packaging/distribution facility in the former Schott building in Minneota, as well as a production facility in Tracy.
"I'm excited by the long term potential for growth and expansion in Sleepy Eye, and I look forward to working with local community leaders to understand the myriad of business opportunities made possible by the awakening of this sleeping giant," said Steve Trachtenberg, President of Chasing Our Tails.
