Children’s Market to kick off Bug Days

The usual Thursday night Farmer's Market will be referred to as the Children's Market this week as its kicks off the annual Boxelder Bug Days at Veterans Park in Minneota.

Several events for children and adults will be offered, including the farmer's market. From 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, a Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest will be held with prizes being given out.

“We will be setting out boxes of chalk near local business throughout the town, including the Manor,” said Caryn Hetland of the Minneota EDA.

“Children of all ages are encouraged to display their artwork. Chalking may begin during the day on Thursday. We are encouraging both individuals, as well as groups such as daycares.”

Those participating in the Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest should have photos of your artwork taken and sent to Hetland at 507-530-5179; or stop at the chalk registration booth that evening with your photo to be judged.

Top Hat Concessions of Ghent will be on hand to sell hot dogs, snow cones and cotton candy at the Children’s Market.

Deutz Heritage Farms of Marshall will be among the local vendors participating and will have organic meats for sale.

Other confirmed vendors have indicated that they will be selling such food items as eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, pumpkins and more.

There will also be various homemade items available for sale.

“This is a great way to kick off Bug Days,” Hetland said.
