DeVlaeminck receives ‘Helena Homegrown Scholarship’

Helena Chemical of Canby is excited to announce the recipient of the Helena Homegrown Scholarship is Austin DeVlaeminck of Minneota High School.

He was awarded a $1,000 scholarship chosen by Helena customer Mike Fier. Every year, Helena selects a seed customer at random to choose a recipient for the selection in their local community. Fier was the 2017 customer selection.

Austin is the son of Tim and Kelly DeVlaeminck of Minneota. He plans to attend Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD to major in Agriculture.

Through the Helena Homegrown Scholarship Program, Mike and LuAnn Fier, along with their son Scott, chose DeVlaeminck for this scholarship. Helena Chemical believes in and is committed to supporting the growth of the next generation of ag professionals in their local hometown community.

“There were a dozen applicants for this scholarship who had to write a paper on ‘What Agriculture means to me’”, said DeVlaeminck.

The criteria the Fier family had for choosing the recipient included: experience in agriculture, involvement in school activities, excellent GPA and a student that will complete their post-secondary education and graduate with a degree in the agricultural field.

“I was impressed with how much work they (Scott, LuAnn and Mike) put into finding the right candidate,” said Dave Dybsetter, Seed Salesman from Helena.

“I appreciated their thought and determination to make the right choice,” added Dybsetter.

“Congratulations to Austin and best of luck in your future endeavors!”
