A hunting stand was not destroyed as firemen rushed to control the huge field fire.

Fire along Highway 19

Firemen from all over the area were called to fight a field fire along State Highway 19 between Marshall and Ivanhoe aobut 1 p.m. today (Thursday).

Firefighters and equipment came in from Minneota, Marshall, Russell and several other areas. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office and other officers were also called to the scene.

The fire, which at this time is of unknown origin, was in an open area but it's uncertain if other property was destroyed by the fire.

At 2:20 p.m. today (Thursday), fire trucks and firefighters were still on the scene trying to control the fire.

Smoke piled out of the fields and caused a huge smokescreen in the sky. It could be seen for miles.

About 1:45, officers indicated the fire seemed to be knocked down and was under control.

About 2 p.m. a Minneota Fire Truck brought more water to the scene.
