Four locals competed at state speech

Four Minneota Speech Team members participated in the state Class A Speech Tournament at Apple Valley last weekend.

None of the four made the finals but all got good ratings at the state.

Jacob Haen had the highest Minneota finish in Humorous Interpretation.

He finished in 10th place. The top eight compete in the finals.

Sean Dilley in Informative Speaking was 11th overall.

In Extemporaneous Speaking, Brenden Kimpe took 18th place and in Creative Expression, Cecilia Rabaey came in 24th in her category.

Mounds Park of St. Paul led all schools with two gold medals apiece and Cannon Falls captured its third consecutive team championship with its seven medalists and 41 points.

Of the six returning gold medalists, two succeeded in winning an event again this year.

They were Pranay Somayajula of Mounds Park Academy in Extemporaneous Speaking and Ellie Hansen of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley in Duo Interpretation.

Her teammate was Emma Burpo. It was the third medal overall for Somayajula, Hansen and Burpo.

Paul Cushman of Wabasha-Kellogg was the only one to win a fourth medal and that was in Storytelling.
