Historical grant helps county museum

The Kandiyohi County Historical Society received a grant in the amount of $99,900 on behalf of the West Central Historical Association (WCMHA). WCMHA is a collaboration of the county and area historical societies and museums of 10 counties in West Central Minnesota.

The counties included are Big Stone, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Redwood, Renville, Swift and Yellow Medicine. The purpose of this collaboration is to promote and tell the history of West Central Minnesota.

The grant is for the implementation of the World War I traveling exhibit. The consultant, Museology, will implement the exhibit plan in the construction of a traveling exhibit on World War I history of 10 counties in west central Minnesota.

This is the final phase of a four phase project that began in 2015. Museology will use the exhibit plan created in the previous phase to construct the exhibit.

This project will take 10 months to complete. After the completion, the exhibit will be scheduled to be hosted in the 10 counties belonging to WCMHA. Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants are made possible by the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.

The Legacy Amendment supports efforts to preserve Minnesota land, water and legacy, including Minnesota history and cultural heritage.

The WCMHA executive committee members are Jill Wohnoutka, Kandiyohi County Historical Society; Barb Redepenning, Lac qui Parle County Historical Society; Jennifer Andries, Lyon County Historical Society; and Nicole Elzenga, Renville County Historical Society.
