Let there be lights! Mascot 2nd annual 'Battle of the Bulbs' contest underway
Start stringing those lights, it's time for the Mascot's 2nd annual Battle of the Bulbs Lighting Contest.
Prize packages were again be awarded to the top displays. First place will be a $500 package of various gifts, second place is a $250 prize package, and third place will be $100 in prizes.
Because of the generosity of area businesses and individuals, we included a fourth and fifth place award, too, worth $50 and $25. We will do that again if donations again exceed prize amounts.
Last year's inaugural lighting contest saw 29 participants from Minneota, Ghent and Taunton.
Austin and Shannon Dritz of rural Taunton claimed the top prize in 2020. Gus and Mayra Molina of Minneota placed second, Tom and Kim Abraham of rural Minneota captured third place. Peanuts and Ali Kloos of Minneota were fourth and Lynn and Barb Okrina of Minneota were fifth.
Several judges determine the winner by a 1-10 point system that includes originality, organization and use of lights.
The contest is free to enter and the entire family can get involved with decorating your house. Participants must be within a 10-mile radius of the Mascot in Minneota.
Registration deadline is Monday, Dec. 13. To register, fill out the form in this week's Mascot and mail or drop it off at our office, or email your information to email@example.com.
