Livestock team third; two near top
The Minneota Livestock Evaluation team this week finished third in the state in Livestock Evaluation judging at the Minnesota State FFA Convention held April 22-24 at the University of Minnesota.
Top team was Jackson County Central with 1,287 points with Pipestone Area second at 1,263 and Minneota third at 1,257. Rounding out the top 10 were Kenyon-Wanamingo, Lewiston-Altura, Springfield, Austin, Luverne-Adrian, Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Fulda.
There were 63 teams competing. The first 22 teams got gold medals and the rest silver and bronze medals. Minneota also had two competitors finish among the top 10 in the Individual Livestock Evaluation event. Gared Moorse finished third overall with 411 points.
Nathaniel Post of Jackson County Central won with 419 with Trevor Mente of Luverne-Adrian just a point ahead of Moorse at 412. Minneota’s Rachel Vlaminck came in fifth with 409. They received gold medals. There were 100 competitors in the individual division.
Placing 32nd was Carly Van Keulen with 387 with Brenden Kimpe in 67th at 370.
Dairy Evaluation: Minneota didn’t fare as well.
As a team, Minneota finished with 1,320 points in 33 points and took a silver. Tri-County United was the top team with 1,507 points. There were 59 teams in the competition.
Minneota’s top individual in the Dairy Evaluations was Grady Moorse with 448 points. He took 22nd earned a gold and was among 200 competitors.
Emily Buysse finished in 99th place with 412 points and earned a bronze medal. Brooke Moorse came in 190th with 354 points and Logan Schuelke was at 192 with 352 points. Both earned bronze medals.
