Lyon County Fair had a great year

“Thank you very much for allowing us to have a free fair. It’s allowed a lot of people to come and enjoy our fair,” said Fair Board Chairman Pat Verly.
“We have a balance of $19,267. It’s nice to have a black line and not a red line,” said Verly. “We had a good fair with great entertainment,” Verly added.
“Last year, we had a red line and came asking for $40,000.”
Now, he said, “I feel good saying we have a positive balance and we can go forward in a positive way.”
When asked by Commissioner Steve Ritter what the board will do with the excess money, Verly indicated it will be nice to start with a positive balance and the money will be used to plan the next fair.
“We hope to be very frugal with how we use that money and hope to keep a positive balance,” said Verly. “You’re going to see a lot more free entertainment next year,” said Wally Wichman of the county fair board.
“You see a lot more enthusiasm out there and a lot more families with Day Care out there. In my opinion, you’re sitting there on $20,000. I’d like to know where that excess revenue will be used for. We are levying $40,000 and I wonder if we should cut (the budget) down by $20,000.”
Commissioner Charlie Sanow asked the board to bring a budget back to the board and he also said, “There were people coming back four times to the fair. That’s impressive.”
“It’s a huge positive for Marshall and Lyon County to have a free fair,” said Verly. “We put on a good fair but we were very frugal,” Verly added.
Commissioner Gary Crowley commended Wichman for helping bring the 9/11 Exhibit to the Lyon County Fair.
